Case IH was once again present at Val Farmers Day this year and introduced their 2120 Early Riser planter to farmers.
“We are very excited to see how this precision planter stands out against others in the market. The planter will fit in on every farm,” says Bertus Barkhuizen, Product Specialist at Case IH.
The planter is available in six- and eight-row configurations with 76-centimetre spacing and can apply both liquid and granular fertiliser. Seed hoppers of 57 or 90 kg can be placed per row. “Starting at the front of the planter with the fertiliser applicators, we have two settings on the planter, a single and a double fertiliser coulter. Behind them are the row cleaners, which are controlled from the cab.”
The bottom of the planting row is flat, ensuring that all seeds are placed evenly at exactly the right depth. “The depth control wheels are specially shaped to reduce soil compaction,” explains Bertus.
The planter has double wheels at the back with one rubber wheel on the outside. The reason for this is to return and place the soil taken from the trench firmly back into place, he says. The specific pattern on the pressure wheel at the back leaves a clear imprint in the soil. He also mentions that the centreline can crack open once it dries, which aids in seed germination.
The machine’s bulk seed and fertiliser hoppers are ready for precision planting work. “The hoppers hold three tonnes of granular fertiliser or 2 900 litres of liquid fertiliser,” says Bertus.
The planter is electrically driven, but the fertiliser placement is hydraulically driven.
The planter comes standard with section control, which is the starting point for any good precision planting work. The planter uses AFS Pro 700 software, and you can add ISOBUS technology.
