TurfManzi

“TurfManzi Irrigation has been providing farmers with solutions in the irrigation industry for 25 years. We handle everything from design, installation, and monitoring of systems,” says Jacobus Freysen from TurfManzi Irrigation.

At this year’s NAMPO Cape, they also displayed their additional services, such as fertilisation systems.

“This system I have here is a fertilisation system. As you can see, it has a typical setup for applications, regulated by the water tank at the front. It is constant water monitoring, so it dispenses water as needed,” Jacobus explains. You also have full control over factors such as pH levels and temperature.

This system is new to South Africa, with the first one imported only a year ago. “We did a trial run with it and the results were excellent!” Jacobus says the installation is very simple and can be done by yourself.

It is important for farmers to monitor everything happening on their farms.

Augos

Abrie Visagie is a Director of Augos in the Western Cape. “We specialise in business-critical data. Our goal is to provide farmers with data and control in their hands to make more efficient decisions and manage better operations,” he explains.

Augos collaborates with TurfManzi and offers products in electricity, water, and gas. They also focus on measuring production lines, the speed at which production occurs, what is being produced, and determining why production halts.

At NAMPO Cape, they presented live demonstrations of their irrigation monitoring and control systems. “We call it the Augos Smart Farm Solution. It gives farmers control and information about all the irrigation on their farms.”

How does it work? “We apply various types of network technology. If it is cellular, it works through Vodacom’s network. We can also set up our own radio network on the farm.”

Jacobus Freysen and Abrie Visagie are ready to assist you!

It can control anything from valves to fans.

“The farmer also has data on his irrigation system to see how much water is being applied. Furthermore, the farmer can automate the irrigation to specify how much water to apply per cycle. It can also irrigate until the soil moisture reaches a certain percentage. Additionally, you can set up schedules and automate levels in advance,” explains Abrie.

All of this happens on a single platform that the farmer can hold in his hand!

Abrie demonstrates how easily the pump system works. The pump can be turned on and off immediately, the valve can be opened and scheduled, load-shedding schedules can be integrated, and it provides important information such as pressure, flow, and dam levels.

This system was introduced in South Africa about ten years ago. Augos develops and builds both the hardware and software themselves.

For Augos, it is important to understand the farmer’s needs before they start working. They first identify the problem and then offer appropriate solutions.

Afterward, they recommend the right hardware, assist with installation, and even provide training!

Nowadays, all farm data is handled digitally. This makes it easy for farmers to stay on top of everything on their farms.

Although Augos is based in the Western Cape, they offer services worldwide, with clients as far as Dubai, the USA, and Chile!

Since it is a wireless system, they can easily assist and provide services globally.
