GWM will be participating in the upcoming NAMPO harvest day. “We will be revealing two new brands, TANK and ORA, and showcasing our commitment to sustainable driving” Conrad Groenewald, Chief Operations Officer of HAVAL Motors South Africa.

As a company that has been in South Africa for 16 years, GWM is the only Chinese brand that has been a part of the South African automobile industry for this long. Operating as HAVAL Motors in South Africa, HMSA has consistently been ranked among the top 10 national vehicle sales in 2023 with the comprehensive product offering ranging from the ever-popular HAVAL Jolion, the best sales performing SUV HAVAL H6 and the NEV engines within the Jolion and H6 stables. The P-Series pick ups have also been showing up in the tough bakkie market and the launch of the off-road P-Series LTD is expected to positively impact this market segment.

At the NAMPO harvest day, visitors will be able to see the new GWM TANK, the P-Series LTD, the new GWM ORA EV as well as the Jolion Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV).
The TANK 300 will be the first model in the range to be launched with the larger TANK 500 likely to follow early next year.

Powered by a 2,0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, the TANK 300 generates 162kW and 387Nm of torque, while the TANK HEV offers up 258 kW (combined) and 615 Nm (combined). Both have a ground clearance of 224 mm, an approach angle of 33 degrees and a departure angle of 34 degrees.

“TANK sits on a ladder-frame chassis, similar to the P-Series,” says Groenewald, “and this gives it serious offroad credentials. We believe both business and leisure buyers will be impressed with what they see.”

Pricing for the TANK 300 Range is expected to be between R685 900 – R851 900.

The GWM P-Series LTD, will be the new flagship of the leisure range of Double Cab pick-ups. This limited edition is a 4×4 powered by a 2,0-litre turbo-diesel engine generating 120 kW at 3 600 r/min and 400 Nm of torque from 1 500 r/min, driving through an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It has a full house of safety and comfort specifications, along with the offroad capability that the P-Series will come to be known for.

The new edition GWM P-Series LTD will be retailing for R694 950.

TANK is not the only highlight of the GWM line-up. Showgoers will also get a preview look at ORA. This is the first fully electric vehicle for the GWM brand in South Africa. The HAVAL H6 HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) will also be on display and has had a positive response in the South African market.

The GWM ORA is a compact city car with a battery range of up to 400 kilometres and it produces 126 kW and 250 Nm from its lithium-ion battery pack and recharging from an 80 kW DC charger will see it go from 10% to 80% in 41 minutes. “This is a significant step for GWM South Africa, especially as the car uses a Dragon Volt battery from SVolt Energy Technology Co. that is cobalt-free, as well as being long-lasting and extremely durable,” says Groenewald.

The GWM ORA, fully electric range of vehicles will retail at R716 900 – R915 900.

The Jolion HEV boasts a 1.5T HYBRID engine with a 140kW and 375Nm output and is available in two derivatives; the Luxury and Super Luxury. It is priced between R549 950 and R579 950.

Globally GWM will be moving away from internal combustion engines to new energy vehicles to cement their commitment towards sustainable driving. As part of this commitment, the subsidiary brand, SVolt, will also be featuring at the show. SVolt are the manufacturers of GWM NEV batteries and will show case their charging solutions to the power crisis in South Africa.
