MOLATEK is the manufacturer of a unique range of livestock feed supplements for ruminants. From a small beginning more than 40 years ago, MOLATEK has developed into one of the largest animal nutrition companies in South Africa today.

Over the years MOLATEK has gained recognition and trust among farmers for its wide range of supplementary licks and concentrates, backed by expert advice and technical knowledge throughout South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland, and Lesotho.

MOLATEK: A unique product

Espee Olivier, Area Manager for KwaZulu-Natal and Marketing Specialist for MOLATEK, explained the unique nature of MOLATEK during this year’s NAMPO at Bothaville in the Free State.

“MOLATEK is unique not only in terms of the culture and the people we are and whom we serve but also in the uniqueness of our product,” he says.

MOLATEK products are based on high-quality molasses syrup and bagasse obtained from the sugar manufacturing process.

High-quality sugarcane is cultivated in the Komatipoort and Malelane areas of the Mpumalanga Lowveld and in the Pongola region of KwaZulu-Natal under irrigation.

The sugarcane is milled and processed to extract bagasse and molasses, which MOLATEK then obtains from the sugar mills. Bagasse is the fibrous pulp left after sugarcane is crushed to extract the juice.

“This bagasse is further processed by MOLATEK’s factory to absorb optimal levels of undiluted high-quality molasses syrup, which then forms the basis of our product range,” explains Espee.

MOLATEK has its own fully equipped laboratory where external raw materials, as well as the manufactured products, are analysed to ensure the products meet international safety and quality standards.

Before and during the manufacturing process, the raw materials and the products destined for the market are tested at up to six different control points to ensure they meet the highest manufacturing standards, as well as nutritional and health requirements.

MOLATEK’s research team has summarised the research of the past 12 to 15 years in collaboration with various stakeholders and universities in a publication, Dierevoeding in praktyk, which is available to producers.

“We can unequivocally state that producers can purchase MOLATEK feed with confidence because the product has been tested thoroughly at least at six quality control points before it arrives on the farm.”

MOLATEK’s national technical sales team consists of 38 qualified individuals.

“We see ourselves as a partner in the ruminant industry,” says Espee. “We are there to add value to your farming operations and build long-term relationships and partnerships.

“We support our clients and prospective clients on the farm and where they showcase their animals, and we share in their success — we are naturally part of our clients’ success. It is extremely important to us to help them perform so that we can also be sustainable going forward.”
