Sernick Bonsmaras had yet another successful auction. 

The averages were as follows:

  • Bulls sold for an average of R 106 887 with the highest bid reaching R 350 000.
  • Stud cows reached an average price of  R 64 884. The highest selling cow sold for R85 000.
  • Under the 3-in-1 category, the average price was R 36 636 with the highest price as R 42 000.
  • Cows and calves combos reached R 27 452 as the highest bid, averaging R 32 000.
  • Pregnant cows averaged R 24 611 and the highest bid was R 29 000.
  • Pregnant heifers averaged at R 22 277 and the highest bid was R 26 000.
  • Open heifers reached a high bid of R 18 500 and averaged at  R 15 667.

In Sernick Bonsmara’s breeding program, the breeder focuses on growth, feed conversion and the carcass characteristics of the breed.

“There are a lot of up-and-coming farmers who like to attend the auction,” says Nick.
