The blue giants of LEMKEN once again impressed farmers at the annual Val Farmers’ Day demonstrations. LEMKEN demonstrated the Karat 12, Rubin 12 and Rubin 10 tillage equipment.

Wessel Vosloo from LEMKEN South Africa is the Sales Representative for the north-eastern region of South Africa. With a demonstration of the Rubin 10, he explained what makes their tools so effective.

The Rubin 10,6 m is equipped with 645 mm Duramax discs and can work up to a depth of 150 mm. The Duramax disc has a 30% longer life compared to LEMKEN’s Dural disc. The symmetrical disc layout prevents any lateral movement during operation.

The Rubin 10’s breakaway action of 280 kg pressure ensures that there is no disc sideways movement during operation. The break-away action ensures a total cutting surface at 70 mm deep. Each disc functions on its own and can comfortably move over any objects.

During operation, the plant material and soil are intensively cut and mixed. The rakes between the discs control the material flow and force it rapidly downwards so that the second row of discs cuts and mixes it again.

A spring system that transfers 280 kg of pressure to each disc is attached to the frame.

The Rubin is optionally equipped with a comfortable rake adjustment and levelling beam behind the second row of discs. This ensures a firm, even seedbed after the roller moves over it.

LEMKEN’s implements have several roller options. The Rubin 10 at Val Farmer’s Day was equipped with a double pipe roller, 540/400. The roller can move independently and can comfortably follow uneven soil surfaces. The roller’s spiral shape design ensures an even and firm seedbed.

Rakes behind the first row of discs force material downwards so that it can be cut by the second row of discs.

“This helps to firm up the seedbed so that all the seeds can be placed to an equal depth in the soil at planting time and emerge evenly,” he explains.

The disc harrow comes in various sizes. Three-point models are available in 3, 3,5 and 4 m, and drag models are available in 4, 5, 6 and 7 m, as well as in 10 m.

The double roller’s spirals run in opposite directions and ensure an even and firm seed bed.
