Harvesting and planting time on the farm are important times of the year, but the preparation you do between harvesting and planting determines the success of both.

Müthing mulchers can make the preparation task easy and successful by chopping the hard residues that remain after harvesting to make cultivation more effective.

The finer the material that goes back into the soil, the sooner the decomposition process can begin.

With the mulching operation, the habitat for the formation of the Fusarium fungus and the stalk-borer is destroyed.

Ru-El de Wet, an irrigation farmer outside Hopetown in the Northern Cape, SA, explains how he uses this machine on his farm: “After harvesting I use the Müthing mulcher to cut the chaff in small pieces.

“Then I let my cattle graze intensively on the field with the chaff. When they are done I rip the field and then I use the Karat 12 from LEMKEN that can work as deep as 350 mm.

“The result is a perfect seed bed. Then I can plant.”

By letting the cattle graze on the field Ru-El can save his valuable pasture.

How it works:

The Müthing Vario breaks the long stalks and tough leaves with a hammer action before the Shark Fin rotors cut the pieces finer.

The implement is also equipped with an adjustable shredding bar that allows you to determine the lengths of your cut.

All the hammers on the roller are tempered with boron steel, so they are very strong and carry a three-year guarantee against breakage.

At the back of the machine is a hood that prevents the chopped pieces from being thrown far. It therefore also offers a safer working environment, and the material is evenly distributed behind the machine.

The roller can be placed in two positions to determine the distribution of the chopped material.

In the front position the chopped material is spread over the roller and a looser cut is the result, by putting the roller in the rear position the chopped material is placed in front of the roller and the roller therefore rolls the material firmly against the soil.

Ru-El says: “The hammers are replaced every season. The only other maintenance is to apply grease to all the grease nipples before use.

A big advantage is the weathering plate on the inside of the implement’s cover which protects the cover from wear and tear.

The Müthing machine is built strongly and according to Ru-El it can cultivate 15 hectares per day. The Müthing mulcher can be attached in front or at the back of the tractor and the Vario model can be shifted hydraulically to the left or the right. This facilitates cutting against fences or under trees. Several purpose-built Müthing models are available for orchards to municipal use. Sizes in different applications are available from 1,2 m to 8,6 m.
