• Chery OMODA 5 on show at FOM
• First appearance of fashionable next generation Chery in Africa
• OMODA 5 confirmed for South African introduction
Chery is preparing to wow South African crowds with its newest sport SUV – the OMODA 5 – at the Festival of Motoring.
The new SUV was confirmed for its first viewing on the African continent as part of Chery’s display at Kyalami. It is expected that it will draw the same masses of adoring car lovers as it has done at auto shows across the world.
“The OMODA 5 is the next step for Chery, both here and across the world. It will be the first vehicle to showcase our new ‘Art in Motion’ design language and it will be fitted with some of the most modern performance and luxury technologies that the automotive industry has to offer,” says Tony Liu, Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.
The OMODA 5 is not simply an evolution of the design language that has delivered stunning SUVs such as the Tiggo 4 Pro, Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro. From outside, the OMODA 5 looks like no other sport SUV. It has a uniquely sculpted grille with stacked headlights and LED running lights that were angled to capture light and shade from any angle. In fact, the designers have created lines on both the horizontal and vertical planes that are designed to reflect on each other to delight and amaze onlookers.
The OMODA 5’s centrepiece grille sets the scene for a visual treat of dynamic and ultra-modern lines, including a sharply creased hip line, dual stacked rear spoiler, light bar rear light system with a stacked light cluster design that simulates a barcode. It also has unique colour-coded dual tone 18” alloy wheels. (delete)
Inside, the OMODA 5 takes its cue from the world of high-performance SUVs, with body hugging sport seats, dual tone leather trim with contrasting stitching, aluminium seat inserts and a sporty and dynamic steering wheel and cockpit.
Here too, the next generation of Chery design and technology are on display. Dual level high-definition 10.25” digital screens take care of all vehicle and infotainment systems, while main climate and comfort controls use haptic technology and artificial intelligence to adapt to driver and passenger inputs.
In the luxurious cabin, the Chery designers have also used the interplay of light and shadow to create a feeling of futuristic luxury. A three-dimensional crystal gear selector takes centre stage, surrounded by machined multi-touch controls, dual capacitive phone charging pads and no less than 64 different ambient colour options.
“The OMODA 5 will whet South Africans’ appetite for the next generation of sporty and luxurious SUVs. Not only will it have every conceivable luxury and intelligent safety feature as standard, but it will be ready for future propulsion technologies, such as hybrid, electric and even hydrogen power,” says Liu.
The OMODA 5 is set to join the Chery South Africa line-up in the coming months, when it will stand shoulder to shoulder to the increasingly popular Tiggo Pro range.
Chery has introduced the Tiggo 4 Pro, Tiggo 7 Pro and flagship Tiggo 8 Pro in recent months, and it has become so popular that Chery has reached a Top 10 position in South African vehicle sales in record time (less than 1 year).
“Our feedback from dealers and customers show that they truly love our combination of style, technology, performance and our industry-leading 10 year / 1-million-kilometre warranty and peace of mind. We have been in South Africa for less than a year, but we already feel well at home and cannot wait to show our newest models to car fans and customers at the Festival of Motoring.”
The 2022 Festival of Motoring is scheduled for 26 – 28 August at Kyalami in Gauteng.
